Mail theft continues to be an issue in Lowry and Denver at large.
The LCMA has been informed that master keys are being used to access kiosks in Colorado, Wyoming, and other western states. Unauthorized use of these master keys give access to your mail without damage to the kiosk itself. You may notice that one or both of the kiosk’s door panels are not securely closed and locked. If the doors are open but there is no damage, your mail carrier, and only your USPS mail carrier, will be able to lock and resecure the kiosk on their next visit.
If you think your mailbox kiosk has been accessed by someone other than an authorized USPS carrier, please report the break-in to the Postal Inspector. Every instance of unauthorized access, whether or not mail was stolen, should be reported to the Postal Inspector via the USPS website so that the evidence and case counts are there to justify USPS allocating resources to address it.
1. Report mail kiosk break-ins to USPS:
- File a report with the Postal Inspector (takes approximately 3 minutes to complete)
- You can do that directly here: https://usps.my.site.
com/emailus/s/daily-mail- delivery-inquiry; or - Follow USPS’ instructions:
- Go to: https://emailus.usps.com/.
(opens a new window) - If you have a tracking number, enter it.
- No tracking number, click on Where is my mail?
- Answer: Was the mail piece destined for a U.S. address?
- Go to: What’s the reason for your inquiry?
- Select: Daily Mail Delivery from the options.
- Select: Theft of Mail as the reason for your email.
- Provide as many details as possible.
2. Please ALSO reach out to Congresswoman Diana DeGette:
- The contact there is Suvu Singh, and she can be reached at (303) 844-4988 or Suvu.Singh@mail.house.gov
- Congresswoman DeGette’s office has responded to the LCMA’s alerts of Lowry’s continuing mail theft problem. They have asked all witnesses to mail kiosk break-ins to email or call their office. The more cases that get reported, the more they have to work with when appealing to the USPS Inspector.
3. To protect your mail moving forward:
- Empty your mailbox every day.
- Sign up for Informed Delivery: https://www.usps.
com/manage/informed-delivery. htm - Consider having important mail or packages, especially medication, delivered to an Amazon locker, a UPS store, or Lowry Print and Ship (Lowry Town Center) to pick up instead of to your home address.
The LCMA has updated all mail kiosks to the most secure version available. These continued mail thefts are not due to the kiosks’ integrity but USPS’s unwillingness to address the unauthorized use of the master key. The only action the LCMA can take is to repair or replace physically damaged kiosks.
